St DAVID'S DAY

St David or Dewi Sant as he is known in Welsh has no doubt been celebrated all over the world today, in many far flung places including in Patagonia where Welsh is still spoken by small communities. Here today in the Fens the morning started misty but the buds seemed to gleam with the promise of a good day ahead as if knowing they had to show off
Narcissus pseudonarcissus, or the daffodil to me and thee has been used medicinally since ancient times but is now being grown for the production of a natural drug Galantamine, which has been proved to be useful in the treatment of Alzheimers, I may need it one day, the way my brain is going! But more on that later as I explore the day.
These lovely white crocus were waiting for the sun to burn the cool mist away too.
I had an early appointment to see the Doc today, just to get some migraine relief tablets, by the time I left the the sun was beaming brightly and across the way from the surgery there is a farmer who collects old farm machinery and this display of old iron work caught my eye with these hay turners in the foreground. There are all sorts of interesting bits in there, including an old and rather unusual dovecote, but the conditions just weren't quite right to see it at its best. I will try and capture it another time.
Back to the garden and as the day progressed and the weather became so warm that everything responded including greedy bees eagerly exploring all the opening flowers ...
This busy pollen seeker came up glistening with gold all over his body, a good reward for all his efforts to visit every bloom.
So, an interesting day spent watching the wildlife getting flirtatious and full of the joys of the start of March
and of course I had to end with the sun highlighting our national floral emblem  ... the daffodil, now grown in The Black Mountains of Wales  for its medicinal qualities.
Who knows where the dragons are sleeping now!
