The day has hardly been what the weatherman said, lots of rain with winds and strong gust. Rain clearing by this evening ... in time for our Carol Concert. He was so wrong.
I went to my neighbours to let the chooks out under cold but but stunningly blue skies.
This field behind the church had a sheen of ice over the very slushy, sheep-churned mud. No No animals in here today though, so the mad mutt ran of his excess energy and very quickly became more dingy dingo than shiny tri-merle. Mind you, my boots were two-tone. He headed off for a drink in the trough ... more of a wash off. Some drink buddy!!
We went to have a look over the gate at the bottom of the field. There is mixed pine, oak and beech along the footpath and the fallen leaves had been rimmed with just enough touch of frost to add interest.
But in the churchyard this was the scene as folk did the last tidying bits inside the church
It is all warm, smelling of lavender polish and a full house is expected to attend tonight.
The Church has been de-consecrated since 1957 but is now a medieval heritage building.
Because of church rules we cannot hold a carol service there, but can have a carol concert
... yes I know ... but there you go. It's a good old sing song whatever the minute legalities!!
I just love the way the old stones lean at all angles as if they've had a drink in the pub ...
So ... is that why our landlord runs out of beer? Only jesting. We need full stock tonight!
