UFO's & IFO's

^^^^^^^
Can you see the dark, round spot in the sky in the above photographs? Yep, got me intriuged too. What you can't see in the above, was that to me it was obviously yellow and at first I thought it was an air balloon, something we rarely see these days over the commons. But, as we got closer it seemed hardly to move and I couldn't see a basket.
And what was weirder, it was  obviously attached to a string. "How odd." I thought and curiosity got me closer. It was to me, still a UFO, i.e Unidentified Flying Object, or Floating Object. Now when folks say UFO's don't exist, it's not true, until they are identified, they are quite simply ... UFO's. When at last there is an explanation, they become IFO's (i,e identfied). Now I realised that the attached rope had to be anchored somewhere and eventually found the attachment point. an old fence post.

"How strange." I thought. Now, being an ex glider pilot, I estimated the height of the balloon to be approx 150 feet, and all I could think of as an answer was that it was a meteorogical balloon, but what was it doing here? The answer came shortly after ... as two guys appeared into view. They were measuring wind speed (on one of the most windless days for weeks) to evaluate this as a site for  wind turbines. They couldn't have chosen a less windy/breezy day! We have a lot of those here up the mountain. But ... the guys seemed happy enough with today's readings (really?)
So now I had an IFO. (Identified Floating Object) So ... not as spooky as you thought, nor me for that matter. Maybe we will see wind turbines up here in the future, who knows!
They couldn't have chosen an unlikelier day. normally we get at very least a brisk breeze up here, as those of you who follow my blog, know about the "singing gate." Some farms on other local mountains provide the electricity for their needs with a single turbine, so maybe we will see  more of these modern windmills around here in the future.
